The LAND-MOOR-MEER-Challenge was a project of the Plant³ Treibhaus, the Plant³ Innovation Management and StapellaufNord°Ost°. In spring/summer 2022, we invited creative young people from all over Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to participate in our LAND-MOOR-MEER-Challenge and to develope solutions to "challenges" identified by entrepreneurs, communal representatives and scientists in our region.

The challenges were related to new products, technologies and services in the areas of (1) building materials, (2) food, food supplements & animal feed, (3) bioplastics & packaging and (4) fine chemicals & phytopharmaceuticals that can be sustainably produced with regional raw materials from LAND, MOOR and MEER.

The topics of the four teams were:

1. how to market sundew as a VIP (Very Important Plant)
2. how to set up a machine-sharing station for the production and manufacture of hemp
3. how to promote the use of algae
4. how to create a suitable marine packaging for marine cosmetic products

On 10th June, the four teams presented their proposed solutions to regional entrepreneurs and the public at an inspiring finale of the LAND-MOOR-MEER-Challenge.

In times of climate change, a growing world population and a dramatic decline in biodiversity, the earth's resources must be used and preserved efficiently and sustainably. The bioeconomic approach pursues this goal by calling for the transformation to a sustainable and bio-based economic system. In addition to countless opportunities, however, the bioeconomic concept also conceals risks. Does the bioeconomy have a future as a form of economy? Which areas of social life are affected? Can the bioeconomy be sustainable?

In six digital lectures, the series „Bioökonomie – eine nachhaltige Wirtschaftsform mit Zukunft?“ ("Bioeconomy - a sustainable form of economy for the future?") examined the opportunities and risks of the bioeconomy from the perspectives of technology, nutrition, energy, environmental ethics and economics.

Bioeconomy is booming! As an economic concept of the future, it pursues, among other things, the goal of successively replacing oil-based products with bio-based, sustainable products. This approach is interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral. But what can such a change look like in concrete terms?

In a virtual exchange, participants can take the opportunity to ask questions about bioeconomy and explore their opportunities for new business activities in this multifaceted cross-sectoral field.

"Making bioeconomy tangible" is a joint series of events organised by the chambers of industry and commerce (Industrie- und Handelskammern) Neubrandenburg, and Schwerin in cooperation with the Plant³ alliance.

The Plant³ Alliance lives through its partners. Accordingly, the alliance meetings play an important role for networking, information exchange, idea generation, project partner search, formulation of needs for action and political advocacy as well as for the strategic development of the alliance.

The official kick-off of the alliance took place on 27.06.2019 with 74 participants.

On 19.05.2021, the "1st Plant³ Innovation Forum" took place as an online event with almost 100 participants and included the establishment of the focus groups. The keynote speech by Dr Martin Langer (BRAIN AG) on innovations as drivers for a sustainable bioeconomy was followed by five impressive best practice examples from Plant³ member companies, a virtual tour of a paludiculture tiny house and insights into ongoing Plant³ projects. Afterwards, the participants discussed various possible applications for raw materials and products from LAND, MIRE and SEA, and established the four focus fields for the future orientation of the alliance's activities.
