In addition, the construction sector is responsible for around 40 percent of EU-wide energy consumption and one third of EU greenhouse gas emissions. \nThis makes the use of sustainable and renewable building materials not only sensible, but inevitable. They grow back faster than they are consumed, require less energy to produce, are not harmful to health and do not pose a threat to the environment. Raw materials growing in Vorpommern can be used for this purpose, especially straw, hemp, seaweed and driftwood as well as wet meadow grasses, reeds and cattails from rewetted moorland.
