Lecture series and panel discussion with the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg

In times of climate change, a growing world population and a dramatic decline in biodiversity, the earth's resources must be used and preserved efficiently and sustainably. The bioeconomic approach pursues this goal by calling for the transformation to a sustainable and bio-based economic system. In addition to countless opportunities, however, the bioeconomic concept also conceals risks. Does the bioeconomy have a future as a form of economy? Which areas of social life are affected? Can the bioeconomy be sustainable?

In six digital lectures, the series „Bioökonomie – eine nachhaltige Wirtschaftsform mit Zukunft?“ ("Bioeconomy - a sustainable form of economy for the future?") examined the opportunities and risks of the bioeconomy from the perspectives of technology, nutrition, energy, environmental ethics and economics.

At the end of the series, on 15 March 2021, the visions of a sustainable biobased economy were discussed lively and controversially with representatives from science, business and society.

The series was funded by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung Essen. The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald provided the corresponding infrastructure. The programme was conceived by the WIR! alliance Plant³ in cooperation with BioCon Valley® GmbH. Further information on the lecture series can be found on the Website of the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald.
