Regional Learning Bioeconomy

The aim of the research and education project „Regionales Lernen Bioökonomie“ (Regional Learning Bioeconomy) is to transfer specialist knowledge into institutional education and to enable pupils and teachers (grammar schools, regional schools) to play an active role in shaping the bio-economy. To achieve this goal, regional learning locations are being designed in north-eastern Mecklenburg-Pomerania, where pupils can carry out a variety of project-related activities in order to gain a basic understanding of the regional bio-economy.

The aim of the research and education project is to develop three to six learning locations that represent different stages of value creation in the context of land, peatland and sea. These can be, for example, an area used for agriculture and forestry, a farm, a cooperative or a manufacturing company.

In cooperation with selected schools, the potentials of regional learning in the context of bio-economy will be investigated and teaching and learning materials for secondary schools and regional schools in the field of geography will be developed and tested. In turn, the participating locations benefit from the project by increasing their profile within the region and proactively practising corporate social responsibility (CSR). Furthermore they come in contact with potential future trainees and specialists through the exchange with the schools. Overall, the project will have a multiplier effect and help to expand the network of partners.
